19 scouts and 6 leaders left Graiguenamanagh on the 26th July for adelboden, Switzerland for a trip of a lifetime.
we arrived in Adelboden at 8.30 a.m. on saturday morning having flown to Char Lois, Brussels.
We then travelled by coach to Adelboden.
The weather was beautiful and the scenery breathtaking.
After settling in we headed off to explore the local surroundings and it wasn't long before we discovered the swimming pool, an Olympic pool with full diving board, vollyball court, table tennis, kiddies pool, and playground, with mountains in the background and snow on top.
On Sunday we had a full day on local cable cars, travelling up and down the various cable car routes.
We also had a spot of down hill scooters, 5km downhill from the top and back up on the cable car.
This was great fun.
This was followed by swimming and soccer.
On Monday we visited Kandersteg, the home of the International Scout centre.
We also had a trip on the Oeschinesse chairlift, which allowed some magnificent views.
This was followed by dry toboggan runs.
We then walked down the mountain.
On the way home we stopped at Lake Blausse.
When we arrived home it was time for a swim and then some more soccer.
On Tuesday we did some abseiling in the Choleren George, first a 15 metre drop and then a 30 metre drop.
This was brilliant craic.
In the afternoon we hired out some mountain bikes and headed for the hills.
Tuesday evening after the swim everyone headed for the Ice Skating disco.
On Wednesday we went White Water Rafting, 15km of thrills and spills.
This was probably the highlight of the week for most of the boys.
Afterwards we had a swim and then we went by Cable car to a Swiss Night.
This was a very enjoyable evening.
On Thursday we went to Interlaken and the Trummelbach Waterfalls where 20,000 litres of water per second trundles through the inside of the mountain.
In the evening there was time for a swim.
Thursday was a national holiday in Switzerland and there was a massive fireworks display in Adelboden as part of the celebrations.
But we were not to be outdone and our A.S.L.'s, Aaron and Wayne organised our own display which was every bit as good.
On Friday we went swimming in the morning, Ice Skating in the afternoon followed by a trip up town.
After the usual games we had a campfire sing song.
On Saturday morning it was time to pack for home, as we had to be out of our house by 12 noon.
Everyone then headed for a last swim in the local pool.
Afterwards we went up town to do some shopping.
We had a meal in a local restuarant before we finally left at 8 p.m. on Saturday evening.
We drove overnight back to Charlois, 12 hours by coach.
We then flew back to Dublin and arrived home at 3.30 p.m. on Sunday.
The whole week was a marvellous experience for everyone.
It was action packed all the way and everyone had a brilliant time.
